Configuring TeraStation3010/3020/5010/5020 Backup to an external USB storage

Applies to TeraStation 5010/3010/3020/3030/5020/7010 series

Note: For TeraStation 5020/3030 series firmware v3.00 or later, USB Device Permission Control feature is enabled by default. USB devices are blocked as soon as they are connected, so they will not appear and cannot be used until access is granted. Follow the procedure in User Manual to grant access to connected USB devices.

 

Setup the external USB hard drive

  1. Conncect your external USB hard drive into the USB 3.0 port of the TeraStation.
    Note: For the compatibility of the support file systems and troubleshooting of external USB drives, please refer to this section of the user manual.
  2. Log in to WEBUI for the TeraStation.
  3. From the "Storage" tab, click on the widget to the right of "USB Drives".

 

  1. A list of currently connected USB drives will be displayed. If you do not see the connected drive, please refer to this section of the user manual for troubleshooting.
    Note: Format USB drives is optional which will erase data ib the external drive.



Supported file systems for external USB drives are below:

 

  1. From the "File Sharing" tab, click on the widget to the right of "Folder Setup".

 

  1. Make sure "usbdiskX" is shown on the Share folder list. The "Backup" option of the drive should be checked automatically.
    Click Close to continue.

 

Configre Backup to the external USB hard drive

  1. From the "Backup" tab, click the widget to the right of "Backup.

 

  1. This window will list existing Backup jobs. 

 

  1. Click Add to create a new backup job. 

 

  1. Give the job a name and select a schedule.

 

  1. Select the "Operation Mode" (backup type). For example we will select Normal (Full) backup.

The following types of backup jobs may be selected:

 

  1. Select other options as desired. Default settings are shown. Click Add to add a source and destination folder for the backup.

 

  1. You should now see the NAS shared folders at the source, target usbdiskX at the destination.
    Select the shared folder that will be the backup source and destination usbdiskX, then click OK.

 

  1. Verify that all settings are accurate. Additional source and destination folders can be added to run as part of the same backup job.
    Once all options are set up as desired, click OK to save the backup job.

 

  1. The job will now appear in the list of backup jobs. This job can be edited later or additional backup jobs can be created. The type and status of the backup job is also shown in this list.

 

The backup configuration is now complete.
